In 1997, PureEdge released ICS and in 1998, published XFDL (Extensible Forms Description Language), the first XML protocol for enforceable documents on the Internet. Co-authored by PureEdge and Tim Bray, XFDL was submitted to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and is the first to be acknowledged by the W3C for enforceable XML documents. Since its submission, XFDL has played an important role in the W3C's ongoing work on secure XML and XHTML.
