The Dublin Core Metadata Initiative presents itself with the tagline: "making it easier to find information". Unfortunately, finding out what DCMI does itself by visiting the web site is not so simple. In fact, Dublin Core defines a standard set of metadata tags designed to make it easier to classify and therefore find information on the web. Fostering standardisation and interoperability are fine ambitions but explaining it in a simple way to non-specialists is also a good thing. Best to try some of the links contained within the site to understand why DCMI is of importance.
