Co-authored by PureEdge and Tim Bray, XFDL was submitted to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and is the first to be acknowledged by the W3C for enforceable XML documents. Since its submission, XFDL has played an important role in the W3C's ongoing work on secure XML and XHTML.

Value Chain Markup Language
VCML is a set of industry-specific vocabularies, transactions, elements, and guidelines that support supply and demand chain collaboration within and across vertical industries. VCML is based-upon a centralized library of reusable components used to build industry-specific vocabularies. Specialized, industry-specific markup language vocabularies are not separate vocabularies, but are instead subsets of the VCML superset. The vocabulary approach aims to support greater collaboration within industries regardless of national boundaries and languages.
petroXML
PetroXML is a set of XML schemas developed by Transzap, Inc. This is the oil industry's first set of XML schemas specifically designed to empower industry participants in end-to-end automation of oil field operations. The new set of schemas represent a starting point for the building of a business-to-business e-commerce community that spans many oil companies and their vendors.
GEML - Gene Expression Markup Language

The GEML community consists of a group of organizations dedicated to guiding the future development of GEML and integrating support for this format into their products and services
papiNet
papiNet is the global initiative to develop, maintain and promote the implementation of standard electronic transaction standards to facilitate the flow of information and facilitate computer to computer communications among all parties engaged in the buying, selling, and distribution of forest, paper and wood products. papiNet have developed a DTD for the exchange of information in the paper supply chain.

NASA/GSFC: Astronomical Instrument Markup Language
http://pioneer.gsfc.nasa.gov/public/aiml/
The Astronomical Instrument Markup Language (AIML) is a domain-specific implementation of the more generalized Instrument Markup Language (IML). Both AIML and IML are vocabularies based on the W3C standard, the Extensible Markup Language (XML). NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and Century Computing, a division of AppNet, Inc., are developing AIML to command and control astronomical instruments. Our software architecture combines the platform-independent processing capabilities of Java with the power of XML. A key aspect of the object-oriented architecture, implemented in Java, involves software that is driven by the AIML instrument description. The initial effort is targeted at the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, an airborne observatory aboard a Boeing 747. Eventually our techniques will enable trusted astronomers from around the world to easily access infrared instruments (e.g., telescopes, cameras, and spectrometers) located in a variety of remote, inhospitable environments.
